The past two weeks have been critical for race relations in the United States. The death of George Floyd in the hands of the Police has ignited a level of activism not seen in decades resulting in calls to defund the Police. Minneapolis has gone a step further to advocate a disband of the Police. With a defund, funding will be diverted to social services critical for the safety and development of black and marginalized communities. But a disband is a little extreme. What will a disband look like? Is it a realistic proposition? What will a defund or disband mean for crime and public safety?
