STEM education stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. Even though these subjects are quite commonly available for women, you’ll not find many women pursuing STEM education. A recent report by UNESCO titled “Cracking the Code: Girls’ and women’s education in STEM, depicted only 35% of women pursuing STEM education in their lives.
While most STEM careers are regarded as the jobs of the future, we need more women, in larger quantities, to be pursuing stem education and becoming a part of the future workforce. A major reason women don’t take STEM education is the cultural and social barriers that society places before women who idealize STEM education. These barriers are often ideological and excessively biased towards women’s capacities to manage heavy load subjects like STEM.
