Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States. On this day in 1865, chattel slavery was abolished in the US two years after Abraham Lincoln signed the proclamation to end slavery in the US. This year, the celebration has taken on a new meaning with the killing of George Floyd culminating in perhaps the most diverse protests in the United States.
