In Nigeria, a country with entrenched masculinities, marital rape remains a foreign concept. By the Criminal Code, a husband cannot be charged with rape because of the notion of implied consent between spouses. And a progressive bill to amend the Criminal Code and recognize marital rape introduced by a female Senator Remi Tinubu at the Senate was voted against.
