Trokosi practiced in parts of West Africa is modern day slavery that sacrifices a person as atonement for the sins of another. Unfortunately, women and girls are the victims of this barbaric practice. In Ghana, this practice has been declared illegal yet it continues. Trokosi is a barbaric practice that negates the agency of women and disempowers the girl child. Culture can be a force for good but, barbaric cultures like Trokosi should be condemned same way the practice of female genital mutilation(FGM) is widely condemned as it is inimical to our coexistence and repugnant to natural justice.
