International court says its prosecutor can probe alleged US war crimes in Afghanistan – The Boston Globe

“The ICC Appeals Chamber’s decision to greenlight an investigation of brutal crimes in Afghanistan despite extreme pressure reaffirms the court’s essential role for victims when all other doors to justice are closed,” said Param-Preet Singh, the associate international justice director at Human Rights Watch.

Prior attempt by the Court’s prosecutor to probe alleged US war crimes in Afghanistan led to the cancellation of the US visa of the chief prosecutor. The inquiry was subsequently dropped. The ICC is poised to reopen investigations into alleged US abuses overseas.
